1. Taiwan's unique national treasure - Ficus pumila var. awkeotsang seeds
    Ficus pumila var. awkeotsang also known as Aiyu, is an endemic species of vine in Taiwan. It is dioecious, often wrapped around rocks or trees. The main fruit period is from August to December. Female fruit is rich in pectin and pectin esterase. It can be processed and into Aiyu jelly. The pollinating insect is Blastophaga pumilae.

   Aiyu seeds contain a large amount of pectin, which has the potential to be developed to various new polymers through processing by enzymatic and biochemical technology:

   -Biocompatible material

   -Plastic substitute

2. Aiyu esterase                                                                                            

   The specific gene sequence of Aiyu esterase is processed into a bioactive enzyme protein via genetic engineering and molecular biotechnology. It has the character of removing esters which can be applied in preservation of fruits and vegetables to retain their freshness.

3. Future development

     At present, BioWare has synthesized suitable pectin through various substrates by enzymatic and biochemical technology. On the other hand, under the genetic engineering and molecular biotechnology, Aiyu esterase has been synthesized. Looking forward to the future, Taiwan's endemic plant Aiyu can be widely used in various fields. Not only makes our life more convenient, but also gives us a clean earth.
