Vaccine Development



1. Types of vaccine

-Traditional vaccine-
1) The inactivated vaccine

    Destroy or kill pathogen with physical or chemical methods. Since some parts of pathogen structure are still intact, the dead pathogen still induces active or passive immune reaction to achieve the disease prevention. But the inactivated vaccines have shortcomings, such as poor immunogenicity and short-term effect that can’t induce complete response, and additional vaccination is needed sometimes.
2) Live attenuated vaccine

    Treating the live microorganisms with physical or chemical methods to eliminate or reduce its toxicity, and remain its biological structure, for effectively inducing the vaccine’s immune response in the receivers.
3) Toxoid vaccine
    The vaccine derived from the organism which’s toxin was modified or the activity was destroyed, and its immunogenicity is remained
4) Subunit vaccine
    Use the immunogenic parts of structure of some toxins or organisms, to induce the immune responses

-New vaccine-
5) Combined vaccine
    The specific immune response is induced by immune cell which recognize the surface antigen on the target cell or microbe, thus the combined vaccine includes various immunogenic proteins, toxins or carbohydrate, and further produces the immunogenic and  specific protein vaccine
6) Recombinant protein vaccine

     A target DNA fragment is inserted into the plasmid of the E. coli or yeast through recombinant protein. A specific protein vaccine with immunogenicity is produced through E. coli or yeast.

7)Recombinant gene vector vaccine

    A special DNA fragment of antigen is inserted into a plasmid, and further transfer the special plasmid into the target cell through various ways. The plasmid will be transcript and translated, and produce immunogenic special antigen to induce the specific immune response.

 


2. Vaccine working type
1) Preventive type --------> After vaccination, the immune system will be activated, and induces immune memory.
2)Therapeutic type --------> Vaccinate patients with the serum of rehabilitees or gene-recombinant antigen, to activate immune system to eliminate pathogen.

3. The comparison between gene vaccine and traditional vaccine

 

    Diseases always come to you and me quietly even though people don’t like to be sick. “Prevention is better than therapy”. If we could prevent the diseases, any unfortunate thing will not be happened. 

    Therefore, BioWare based on the past gene engineering and molecular biology experiences, develop various gene vaccines of various diseases currently, including cancer, auto-immune diseases, and aesthetic medicines, and hope to provide human health and happiness in the future.
